SPAIN 21st 23rd July 2006. 1st Classic Aircraft International Meeting Principado de Asturias,La Morgal, Oviedo, Asturias, Spain.

The Aero Club Principado de Asturias under the leadership of their President, D.Marcial Alvarez invited all owners of vintage and classic aircraft to attend the 1st meeting of such aircraft to the wonderful area of Asturias in Northern Spain. The area not only offers stunning coastal scenery but the best of food and drink, in particular, cider. Most importantly the welcome, friendliness and overwhelming hospitality given to all their visitors cannot be adequately described.

The governing body for aviation in Spain is the Real Aero Club de Espana (Royal Aero Club of Spain), which is one of the World's oldest and most prestigious aero clubs having been formed in 1905, at the birth of aviation. Their President, D.Jose Luis Olias works hard to encourage such events and ensures that the Real Aero Club de Espana offers maximum support and sponsorship.

I was very privileged to be invited and cannot recommend to all aviators that they should attend next year when it is hoped the 2nd Classic Aircraft International Meeting of the Principado de Asturias will be held again at la Morgal Airfield in 2007.

Sadly the contingent from the UK had to pull out at short notice and the large group from Switzerland decided to turn back at the French/Spanish border leaving the meeting to be 100% Spanish with the sole exception of me! A great shame as from past experience I knew that everyone who attended was certain to have a fine time and so it proved. The organisation was superb, the hotel excellent with the meals each evening out of this World, even the lunch in the hangar managed to produce wonderful traditional Asturian dishes which tied in with the comradeship and enthusiasm, well, I will not go on, try to get there next year! My sincere thanks to everyone concerned. Once again my friends in Spain have afforded me with another experience I will never forget.

Here are some of my photos, some will appear in Spanish aircraft magazines in and ther websites the next few months: www.funaereacv.es/ (Fundacion Aerea de la Comunidad Valencia)
